IN THE AUTHOR’S OWN WORDS
My Motivation for Writing, Wrestling Through Adversity
When I read the personal stories of tragedy that young people have endured globally during a pandemic, wars, school shootings, and poverty, I was moved to tears and was motivated as a writer to tell their stories. I felt a visceral sadness when seeing the faces of those whose young lives have been cut short without learning coping strategies to win in life. They have been abandoned, while their brains are being stunted during the natural growth and development that takes place until the age of 25. Without proper adult guidance, they may become suicidal, anxious, depressed, or harm themselves, adding to our mental health crisis.
Since I have successfully worked for 28 years by assisting young people to reach their best performances through accessing Mind Power, by teaching self-hypnosis to get in the subconscious Zone and other Mindful Toughness ® skillsets, I felt a sense of urgency and obligation to share with others my case stories in my well-researched book. In this way, the positive habit patterns learned are integrated into who they are as persons throughout their lives. My aspiration as an author is that my work will contribute to mind-body research and to the attainment of mental health for all of us.
The Author’s Epiphany: Why Publish in Arabic?
People ask me why I am making the effort to translate my book from English to the Arabic language of which I do not speak a single word. They query, “Why don’t you translate it into Spanish or Italian?” Even after describing how I visited Moracco twice, and then Egypt for my wedding anniversary in January 2023, they don’t get it. So here is my story. Perhaps you will understand it.
We took a 7-day cruise on the Nile River and explored the ancient Temples and King Tut’s tomb. My tour guide, Walid, was knowledgeable in Egyptology. He took an interest in my book and my work as a peak performance coach and registered nurse who works with Mind Power. Walid translated hieroglyphics written on the walls of the Temples and showed me the “hospitals” within them and how the ancient priests/physicians treated patients who had physical ailments with natural remedies. There were rooms allotted to those who had mental troubles, but everyone was cared for with respect no matter their social status or health issue.
Four transcendental events took place for me. One was in Luxor, Egypt, where we had our names, Jeffrey and Christine, written on parchment in hieroglyphics to celebrate our anniversary. This bonded us maritally and helped me to remember who I am as a spiritual being.
The second happened as our boat passed by the Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan, where Agatha Christie wrote Death on the Nile. This inspired me to write the Introduction to my book in the boat’s library.
The third sacred moment materialized in Old Cairo when three major Faiths of the world united us in the crossroads of the city, that is, as a Catholic, Muslim, and Jew, where I, Walid, and Jeff stood spiritually together hand-in-hand. The fourth and most powerful transcendence occurred in the cave beneath the Abu Serga Church when I stood by the site where the Holy Family lived while fleeing from Herod’s path of the slaughter of baby boys. While there, I was so moved that I cried and could not breathe or speak.
During this epiphany, I promised to translate my book into Arabic, so we can all join together to help our young people to grow holistically in mind, body, and spirit, face adversity, and become Mindfully Tough in today’s tumultuous world. This is our common goal in the family of humankind. Won’t you join me on this promenade walk through “Pictures at an Exhibition” that I am presenting here and in my book? And cheers to Walid, who promised he would always remember me.
